It has been said
that one should place
A tiny candle
warm and bright
Upon
the windowsill to guide
The
Christ Child home on Christmas night.

It
is a story handed down
By
word of mouth from long ago
By
gentle folk who feared the Babe
Might
lose His way amid the snow.

And
so I sit remembering
The
blessed tales from days of old,
And
long to catch a fleeting glimpse
Of
hallowed face and hair of gold.
For
love burns in my heart tonight,
A
little candle warm and bright.
